Darrell Whiting
Pershing Rifles Captain Darrell Whiting is a fourth-year Army ROTC Scholarship cadet and Political Science major from Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia. P/R CPT Whiting is also a member of Pershing Rifles Company R-4.
After pledging to Company R-4 in fall 2006, he was selected as the company S-3, Operations Officer for the spring 2007 semester. During the 2007/2008 term he served on national staff as the G-5, National Director of Alumni Affairs and Public Affairs Officer. He was selected to serve another term on National Staff as the G-3, National Operations Officer for the 2008/2009 school year.
Currently, P/R CPT Whiting serves in the Virginia Army National Guard as a Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) cadet in the 1/111th Field Artillery Bravo Battery and the 2nd/183rd Calvary units in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point ROTC Summer Cadet Field Training class of 2007 and Warrior Forge 2008 (LDAC). P/R CPT Whiting is also involved in additional activities at Norfolk State University, which he serves as Vice President for the Pi Sigma Alpha Society and is a member of the Political Science Association.
P/R CPT Whiting was born in Washington, D.C. and later moved to Prince Georges County, Maryland while he was in high school. He is an honors graduate of Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland where he served as the Cadet Battalion Commander for the JROTC unit.
P/R CPT Whiting awards and decorations include: The American Legion Award for Military Excellence (gold), the National Sojourners Award, AROTC Academic Honors, and The Sons of the American Revolution silver award for academic excellence, The Army ROTC Recruitment Retention Medal and Color Guard participation ribbon.
P/R CPT Whiting is slated to commission May 8, 2009 as a Military Intelligence Officer in the United States Army.
