Resolution of Affiliation
BETWEEN
The Military Order of the World Wars
AND
The National Society of The Pershing Rifles
WHEREAS, The National Society of the Pershing Rifles was organized as a drill team in 1891 by then-Lieutenant John Joseph Pershing while at the University of Nebraska, to serve as a professional example for cadets who lacked esprit de corps, motivation, and basic military skills; and,
WHEREAS, by the time Lieutenant Pershing departed the University in 1894, the drill team had become a fraternal organization recognized for its military excellence and renamed itself the “Pershing Rifles” in his honor; and,
WHEREAS, by the early 1900s, the reputation of the Pershing Rifles organization prompted other military programs to affiliate with it in creating and expanding organization, in which membership was recognized as a high military honor with a focus on leadership development and discipline among its members; and,
WHEREAS, the continuing reputation of The National Society of the Pershing Rifles is testament to its founding principles of leadership, military proficiency, scholarship, devotion to duty and country, and readiness to meet any situation, and,
WHEREAS, The Military Order of the World Wars (the Order) was founded in 1919 by officers who served under General of the Armies John Joseph Pershing to perpetuate the ideals of patriotism; the promotion of national security, the fostering of fraternal relations among all branches of the Armed Forces of the United States; and the defense of the honor, integrity, and supremacy of our national government and the Constitution of the United States for which they had fought the Great War; and,
WHEREAS, these interests shared by The National Society of the Pershing Rifles and the Order, along with the historical significance of General of the Armies John Joseph Pershing to both organizations, will strengthen and foster mutually beneficial relationships between the current officer corps and the future Officers and leaders of the Nation; now,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that The Military Order of the World Wars and the National Society of the Pershing Rifles pledge to support this resolution of affiliation in order to promote and expand participation and involvement in mutually beneficial programs throughout the Nation for a better America.
